We are thrilled to share James and Ashley’s big day on the blog today! This couple has an incredible love story that we are honored to tell. They met in Tuscaloosa, AL while they both attended Law School at UA. So it was only appropriate that they said “I Do” at the University Club on campus. We went to the rehearsal dinner the night before, where their friends and family said it was a union that was truly destined, because James almost did not choose the University of Alabama, since his whole family/family friends went to Universities in Tennessee (and let’s face it, UA and UT are somewhat rival schools). But after James’ older brother decided to go to law school in Alabama, James followed and never looked back after meeting his bride, Ashley.
They were in a study group together, and since James does not use social media, he gave his number to Ashley so he could be included whenever their friends met up to study. And I guess you would now say that the rest is history. He knew she was going to be his wife.
Ashley is in love with her two dachshund pups, and James, being the sweet man he is, decided to propose by buying her a gift with two dachshund puppies reading “Mr. and Mrs.”… and Ashley happily said YES!! Here is the story in her own words:
“It was a total surprise!! We were studying for our bar class when he asked to take me out to dinner. After 8 hours of studying, dinner was much needed. So I got dressed up and James came and picked me up. We were walking around the Governors Plaza in Tuscaloosa when I spotted James’ roommate sitting on a bench reading a newspaper. Now, if you knew Robby, you’d know that this is not as suspicious or abnormal as it may seem. I remember thinking to myself, “of course Robby is out reading a newspaper…” That’s when Robby stood up to say hello and said, “don’t you know James is about to propose?” And he proceeds to get out a little mr. & mrs. Towel and the ring box! The rest is kind of a blur because my emotions took over! Part of the surprise is that James called my parents & they drove up to be there! They were hiding in the bushes and jumped out after the proposal!! After, we went to my favorite restaurant for dinner!”
On their wedding day, James and Ashley were both so excited and anxious at the same time. More anxious just to see one another and finally walk down the aisle. And we imagine they were a little nervous too because they had their wedding on one of the busiest days on campus… spring A-Day (but this detail will come up again later)!
During their first look, James was completely taken back at Ashley’s beauty and could not stop smiling! During their portraits Ashley was glowing with joy.
Some of our favorite parts of the day happened during their ceremony. Ashley is so close with her mom and dad that she wanted both of them to walk her down the aisle to meet her groom. Next, after they exchanged their vows, and performed a “lock and key” ceremony, the lawyers wanted to sign the official marriage license! All of their family and friends chuckled and smiled while they signed. And lastly, the A-Day crowd was circling around the busy sidewalks to witness their ceremony kiss and everyone on the street yelled out a loud “ROLL TIDE”!!
James and Ashley shared a small, intimate reception with lots of dancing and toasts to the bride and groom before making their grand exit!

We are so happy Anna and Jacob are officially married! While we finish up their wedding album, we wanted to share her gorgeous bridal session! We spent a spring afternoon with her at the Botanical Gardens. We found some lovely little nooks with flowers and gorgeous sunlight. Anna was beaming and her dress was spectacular!
We could not be more excited to finally share these images! Congratulations again Mrs. Abel!
THIS COUPLE!! You will love them! We do! Josh and Erin met by chance and we adore their story. It’s unique! Just like them! Their wedding was just sheer bliss at the Clubhouse on Highland. Despite the rain, these two wonderful people laughed and smiled the whole day through.
How they met (direct quote from the couple. Get ready to smile.):
“The powers of the internet first connected Erin and Josh in 2013, and after exchanging a few emails and juggling schedules, the two decided to try things out on a date. When Josh finally rumbled to Erin’s door in a very loud Cadillac, Ellen, the maid of honor and former housemate, was on standby to write down Josh’s license plate and description in case it would later be needed in a police investigation. But that souped up Caddy meant peace of mind for Josh, since he could make a fast getaway if this turned out to be some sort of catfishing scheme. Luckily for us, this was no mere internet hoax, and one amazing first date turned into many more, and led us to today – a wedding!”
OH MAN! And, their wedding day was amazing! When we met with Erin to talk about her wedding day, she described how she wanted a huge party in a fancy house. That is exactly what they had. A HUGE party. The entire house seemed to be covered in flowers. Friends and family filled every room with joy. Erin looked incredible and Josh had the biggest grin when he saw his bride!
We are incredibly honored to know Josh and Erin. May you both have many, many happy years together!

Hannah and Matt are just one of those couples you will never forget. They are so incredibly perfect for one another in so many ways. The theme of their wedding was The Great Gatsby, and what a better place to have a 1920s inspired wedding van in historical Birmingham Alabama. The architecture has been so well preserved in several of the venues Hannah and Matt chose to really capture that 20s theme. From the historic Tutwiler hotel, to the Southside Baptist church for the ceremony and finally The restored Florentine building for their reception. Sit back and get ready to witness some of the best places Birmingham has to offer! You see more of Birmingham sites in their engagement session. View it here.
Hannah & Matt have one of those high school sweetheart love stories that we all adore to hear.
It started when they decided to start talking to one another after a basketball game one evening. They told their friends and parents that they would just be hanging out for an hour or so to talk, but that our turned into several hours and they have been inseparable ever sense.
And their wedding day was no different as far as the word “inseparable” goes.
The day started off with love letters that they wrote one another and when we heard them read it out loud we were crying happy tears with them. Matt wrote his letter in The form of a gift: A hard back copy of The Great Gatsby novel.
The bridesmaids surprised Hannah with a sweet book filled with letters and memories they each cherished with her. The groomsmen and Matt shared celebratory cigars before he went to meet his bride for their first look.
You could sense they’re incredible excitement when they saw each other for the first time and they could not stop smiling. This day was FINALLY happening.
their classic ceremony took place at Southside Baptist Church with their closest friends and family to witness. Afterwords they celebrated at the historic Florentine building (recently restored to its full glory) to party the night away.
One of Hannah’s visions for her day was to have a “snowy” get away. our friends at On-Site Productions provided a snow machine to pull off her idea! We also wanted to take it vantage of the “snow” in Alabama and snap some romantic photos in this winter wonderland!
We cannot thank you two enough, and we feel like you to deserve the absolute best out of life because you are some of the absolute best people we know! Thank you a million times for allowing us to be such a huge part of your new adventure together. We adored being surrounded by your love and we wish you the most love and happiness!

Matt and Megan have an incredible story and when Megan told us for the first time…we had chills. Matt and Megan originally met when their families were stationed together in Washington, DC in 1997. They both come from military families. Matthew played baseball, soccer, and participated in boy scouts with Megan’s brother. Their fathers worked together and their families developed a friendship… little did they know, it would last a life time.
Fast forward 16 years later, in the small town of Columbus, Mississippi. It’s November of 2013. Matthew had just become an Instructor Pilot in the Air Force and Megan was in graduate school at The University of Alabama. Megan and her roommate were in town to meet some friends when Matthew and Megan ran into each other at a small dive bar. They didn’t recognize each other. So, after some corny jokes and dancing to karaoke, phone numbers were exchanged. After a few days of talking to each other, Megan’s mother put 2 and 2 together. They realized that, Matthew, was in fact little Matthew Carey that was the hyper little kid Megan’s older brother played soccer and baseball with. When Matt’s family found out that he was dating Megan, Matt’s dad pulled out some old home videos. He found the future Mr. and Mrs. Carey with bowl-cuts at a pinewood derby race. So cute!!!
Matt and Megan’s wedding day was truly spectacular. Even though it was January, the weather warmed up and the sun showed off! The moment Megan put on her dress that morning, we knew she was going to be a showstopper. Matt’s reaction to seeing her walk down the aisle was priceless. He was certainly overwhelmed with emotion. Since they chose not to see each other until the ceremony, Matt’s anticipation had built up all day. After the ceremony, they couldn’t stop smiling and kissing each other! Their genuine adoration of each other is very evident! The love each other honestly and openly. It’s really special to see in person!
To Matt and Megan, we hope you have many years of happiness! Congratulations to you both and we are so excited to see where your new journey takes you!

Kassie and Justin are just one of those couples that everyone is drawn to. They have the type of personalities that just shine when they walk into a room and can make you feel like a million bucks. Kassie and Julie have been friends for many years and when she told Julie at her senior portrait session “you are going to photograph my wedding” she definitely made good on her word.
Kassie and Justin met while they were in school together. We knew that they wanted to schedule their session when they would both be in town during the Christmas/New Year holiday, and the weather could not have been more perfect for them. We all said a little prayer that it did not rain …since we had such a short time frame to photograph them and them to visit family while they were here.
We started their session at Vulcan Park along their walking trail. The deep green ivy and mossy rocks made for some pretty spectacular outdoor photos right on the outskirts of downtown Birmingham. The way Justin holds Kassie you can tell he knows he has a true gem and he treasures her with all of his heart. After we left Vulcan Park, we explored the five points south area. We as we walked up to the marble staircase we encountered a killer sunset. Lastly, we ended their session at Starbucks (not pictured) to talk about their July wedding and all of the plans we could fit in before they were off to more family gatherings.
We are thrilled they have trusted us to capture these special memories and cannot wait to have them in front of our cameras again this summer at Avondale brewery!
Rachel and Chase’s wedding at Anderson Gail Farms in Shelby, AL was one we will not soon forget! We had been looking forward to their day for MONTHS and when the day finally came it did NOT disappoint! When we met with Rachel we immediately felt that her joy was contagious and made everyone in the room light up like she did!
Chase and Rachel met through mutual friends and as they say “the rest was history”. We asked Rachel how Chase proposed and she said “Chase surprised me with a trip to the beach for my birthday (September 29th) after I had been gone for 5 days in Orlando. This was the longest we had been apart so we were both itching to see one another. That night we went to eat and then he took us to the docks by the bay. We spent a good amount of time laughing and catching up on the time we were apart, and then he took me to the exact spot he first (asked me if he could) tell me he loved me as teenagers. We reminisced that night and as we were hugging he asked me yet another question, but this time he was on one knee! I was shocked as I work at a jewelry store and he got this by me, but t was hands-down one of the best days ever!”
Rachel and Chase are most definitely the fun-loving, adventurous, outdoorsy couples in love and this is everything we hope for when we photograph couples. They had so much laughter and real connections. You could tell that Chase just adores Rachel (I mean, how could you not love Rachel?) and the way she looks at Chase you can see that he is the only man in the universe.
Their day was also fun and unique to us because they told us they just wanted to BE MARRIED so they decided to get married a few months before their original November date, so it made the day so chill, low key and down to earth (the best kind of ceremonies, right?). They both showed up to Anderson Gail Farms ready to share that first look and celebrate. After the first look and wedding party photos it was time to say their “I do’s”. We loved that Chase’s father was the minister who married them and he made the comment “You must love each other enough to get married a second time!” (so sweet)
After the ceremony was over we went straight into the fun outdoor reception. We were all surprised by Rachel’s father-daughter dance because she and her father did an impromptu shimmy-shake dance to compliment their goofiness! Everyone was laughing and rooting on their dance moves! The groom’s doughnut cake topper was little figurines of them and their new puppy, Maci!
The sunset was so gorgeous that fall afternoon that we just had to take advantage of it and steal the couple away for a few more romantic shots of them and Rachel’s beautiful fur made an appearance! But one thing we did not expect to make an appearance was a DINOSAUR! One of the wedding party had their dinosaur costume still in their car from Halloween a few days before and surprised them during the sunset photos. Hands down one of the funniest things we have ever had happen at a wedding!
Their guest lined up to wish them well and they rode off in Rachel’s mom’s convertible!
Rachel and Chase, no one deserves this perfect day more than the two of you.
We are beyond happy that you chose us to photograph the beginning of your next big adventure. Thank you a million times over for being so incredible. We hope this new adventure together gets better each and every day. Your joy is our joy! And we wish you years and years of blessings and happiness!

” A sky full of stars and he was staring at her.” – Atticus
Kevin and Mary met one night at a party while in college. Kevin was staring at her from across the room. Mary never noticed…until he shouted “She’s Fine!” That caught her attention for sure and when she looked up, she locked eyes with Kevin. Quickly that look turned into disapproval from Mary. She turned and said nothing to him. Immediately afterwards, Kevin told his friend sitting next to him that he would date Mary one day. WOW was he right!
Two years pass and Mary runs into Kevin. Mary didn’t recognize him as the man who yelled at her from across the room. Eventually Mary asked for Kevin’s phone number through a mutual friend. By the second or third date, Mary realized Kevin was the same person who offended her (all the while Kevin knew). By then, it was too late. Mary and Kevin celebrated 9 years together right before their wedding in November.
Mary and Kevin are adventurers. They’ve moved all over together. Kevin has always been fascinated with the idea that Vikings used stars and the sun to navigate. So, their vision for their wedding day was based on constellations in the night sky, guiding one (or two people) to where they are meant to be.
The highlands area of Birmingham has a lot of meaning to Mary and Kevin. They lived there for quite awhile before their travels. Mary really saw it fitting to find a ceremony location close to the area. St. Stephens was the perfect location for their small, intimate wedding ceremony. The smile on Kevin’s face when he saw Mary for the first time was priceless!
Friends and Family traveled from all over to celebrate Kevin and Mary’s new journey together! The joy in the air was incredible to watch…especially during the reception! They danced the night away for sure!
Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Little! Your wedding will forever be one of our favorites!!!
