No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” – 1 John 4:12
Kathryn and Chris are some of the most genuine and beautiful souls we have had the opportunity to photograph. We were blown away by all of the joy and excitement they shared as they started their lives together as Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Their entire day wasn’t about the venue or the cake or even the dress. No, their wedding day was about the celebration of two incredible people loving one another unconditionally as Christ loves us.
As we arrived we saw Kathryn’s mother’s friends helping put together flower arrangements and that alone showed us how much others care about this couple as much as we do. Kathryn’s mother was so giddy when she saw us and came up to hug our necks to just thank us for everything that we were about to do that day. I (Julie) told Kathryn and Chris that I was so excited I got to celebrate my 28th birthday on THEIR wedding day! Kathryn told me “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” at least 50 times (which I replied with “HAPPY WEDDING DAY!”) and Chris and his groomsmen made it a point to sing happy birthday to me when I arrived. When we say this couple is truly awesome, humble and giving…we mean it.
When we arrived to the church Kathryn and Chris told us they were going to give one another Bibles with a letter inside before their first look.
“This moment right here got me good. There are very few moments while photographing a wedding that catch me off guard, but I will never forget this one. I love the way God speaks directly to me through the lives of others. The bride and groom had given bibles to one another as a gift. When the groom opened his bible, he sobbed. Shortly after gaining his composure, he explained his overwhelming emotion. Before he met his bride, he had almost given up hope in finding the “one”. He prayed and prayed for the Lord to send her one day, but his patience was wavering. That same week, his small group planned an outing to go to a baseball game. He met a beautiful girl at that game…and now she is his wife.
After telling me the story of how they met, he looked directly at me and said, “I know you see a lot of weddings, but…going to that baseball game was the best decision I ever made. And when you find that person…”.
And that’s where I began to cry. I knew exactly what he meant.
God spoke directly to me in that moment. I saw Him work in the life of that groom and bless him immensely. And I saw the moment when that same groom bowed his head and sobbed in thankfulness.”
And of course the first look had us all sobbing and happy that this day has finally arrived for them.
They are ceremony was of course nothing short of beautiful and God centered. When their minister said you may now kiss your bride, Chris planted one tremendous kiss on Kathryn, then sweetly kiss her forehead! Then they continued to celebrate down the aisle and out the church doors!
Their reception was at the Barn at Shady Lane, where they danced and danced and celebrated the Crimson Tide then …danced some more! There was even a few tambourine solos by the guest and it fit perfectly with their live band!! And Chris and his groomsmen all sang along with the band for “Sweet Home Alabama”.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith capped their perfect wedding day with a sparkler send off and rode away in wedding bliss in a classic car!
We cannot express enough how thankful we are that you guys chose us to witness such a beautiful union and we pray God continues to bless your relationship and encourage others as you have done for us.
