Recently Julie and I were encouraged through a friend to post more personal blog entries to show a little insight into our lives and who we are. So in honor of that, I would love to share with you a little post about my love for Uganda and the people of the village, Nyenga.
My dear friend Rachel started a non-profit organization called Son Shines Hope that focuses directly on the village of Nyenga. I had the honor of traveling to visit her and her beloved ministry in 2012. Son Shines Hope exists to transform the lives of those in poverty by providing excellent and sustainable community services in developing countries. I was extremely blessed by her vision and with the people of Nyenga.
At the age of 17, I committed my life to the Lord and felt called to love his people in becoming a missionary. I wasn’t exactly sure what that would look like, but if you told me that I would be traveling all the way to Africa (multiple times)…I probably would have thought you were crazy. Well friends, obviously God had bigger things in store for my little life. I fully believe that the Lord calls us to be a”missionary” in every aspect of our daily lives no matter where we are, but I was immensely blessed by the fact that he wanted me to go.
My life was forever changed in the month that I was in Uganda. I laughed and cried with and for the village of Nyenga…and I still do to this day. I carried my camera with me everywhere I went just in the hopes of sharing a glimpse into the lives in the village. I could go on for days about the NEED of Nyenga, but as of right now I would just like to show you this beloved Village and its people. -L
